Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) voted against HR 9, the deceptively titled Small Business Tax Cut Act, because it added $46 billion to our national deficit and failed to help struggling mom-and-pop stores in order to give another 20% tax cut to companies that outsource American jobs overseas and multi-billion dollar hedge funds.
Perlmutter stated, "Today Tea Party Republicans passed an irresponsible plan increasing our deficit by $46 billion this year and gave a 20% tax cut to hedge funds, companies that outsource American jobs, and so many other businesses which are the opposite of hardworking small businesses. Even Ronald Reagan's economic advisor says this bill will do nothing for the economy and is politically motivated. We need to end the partisan games, and work together to ensure people can get back to work, pay their mortgage, send their kids to college and save a little for retirement. It's my priority to ensure people have the good jobs of the future to go to here in our area. That's why I will continue working with small and big businesses in the 7th Congressional District to help them access the capital they need to grow, prosper and hire new workers. There is a right way and a wrong way to reduce the tax burden on our nation's small businesses--and today's Republican bill is clearly the wrong way."
