Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) issued the following statement on Tax Day:
"From Jasper and Scottsburg to Kokomo and La Porte, Hoosiers across the state are tired of their hard-earned money being used to pay for Washington's spending addiction. It's remarkable that this administration continues its attempts to increase taxes without taking any serious action to reduce the debt, rein in spending and reform the tax code.
"Americans don't need higher taxes; they need tax relief and certainty. Rather than benefiting our economy, the current tax system is an anchor dragging down economic growth and inhibiting job creation. Comprehensive tax reform is a proven way to help incentivize businesses to hire and reduce our country's dangerous red ink.
"Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and I have introduced a bipartisan comprehensive tax reform plan that would reduce rates, make businesses more competitive and allow most Americans to fill out their taxes using a one-page form. By simplifying our tax code with a plan like Wyden-Coats, we can create new jobs and eliminate some of the stress and hassle that comes with Tax Day."
Last year Coats and Wyden introduced the Bipartisan Tax Fairness and Simplification Act, legislation that would simplify both individual and corporate tax rates, provide tax relief to the middle class and encourage businesses to grow and invest in the United States.
