Introducing Freight Legislation

Location: Unknown

Freight volumes in the United States are expected to nearly double by 2035, and it is important that our nation is prepared to meet these increased demands safely and efficiently.

On April 1, 2011, I introduced legislation to create a national freight policy to improve the efficiency, operation, and security of our national transportation system. The "Focusing Resources, Economic Investment, and Guidance to Help Transportation (FREIGHT) Act" would develop a strategic goods movement plan, create a dedicated office for freight planning within the U.S. Department of Transportation, and establish a competitive grant program.

Our nation needs a strategy to meet our growing freight needs and secure our global competitiveness. The FREIGHT Act will help us achieve national objectives of bettering our communities through reduced congestion and pollution while at the same time strengthening our economy
