LoBiondo Statement on Death of Corporal Derek Kerns

U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement upon learning about the death of Marine Corporal Derek Kerns, 21, of Woodstown.

"Corporal Kerns served his country with honor and distinction. This tragic loss reminds us that the courageous men and women who wear the uniform do so at great risk to themselves in defense of our country. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Corporal Derek Kerns, particularly his wife and young son."

According to the U.S. Marine Corps and news reports, Corporal Kerns died April 11, 2012 as the result of a MV-22B Osprey helicopter crash during a training exercise in Morocco. He was a MV-22 crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, Marine Aircraft Group 26MV-22 based at New River Air Station in North Carolina. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

He is survived by his wife and 3-month old son. His mother, Carol, still resides in Woodstown.
