Congressman Russ Carnahan released a statement today, following final approval by the St. Louis County Council Tuesday night, allowing a $3 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to support air freight incentives at Lambert International Airport, improving opportunities for international trade.
"For years, I have spoken about the importance of improving the international trade capability of Lambert International Airport," said Carnahan. "As the signature airport of the Heartland of America, St. Louis is in a prime position to be a leader in the export of American goods, while increasing economic activity in St. Louis and creating high-paying jobs that can never be outsourced overseas. This grant will go a long way toward making that happen.
"President Obama has committed our nation to doubling exports during his term. The only way for that to happen is to build the infrastructure necessary to move our products to foreign countries more efficiently and effectively, as we rebuild our manufacturing core. Democrats in Washington have committed to creating jobs by making products in America again."
