Kansas Governor Sam Brownback along with Maj. Gen. (KS) Lee Tafanelli, the director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management and the adjutant general, today toured parts of Kansas impacted by tornadoes, hail, strong winds and heavy rains Saturday night and early Sunday morning. After an aerial tour of storm damage paths in Rice County and Stafford Counties, they met with local and state officials as well as business leaders in Wichita to review the damage at Spirit Aerosystems complex and the Pinaire Mobile Home Park and other impacted residential areas nearby in the Oaklawn area.
"The damage we saw confirmed how the outcomes could have been much worse. Initial assessment of the damage found destroyed homes and businesses but so far, no loss of life. We are grateful so many took the weather warnings seriously and acted accordingly," Governor Brownback said.
Brownback said the state emergency response team will work continue to work with local officials to assess damages and to assist counties if additional resources are needed.
