Over the next two weeks I am embarking on a listening tour. I will be hosting town hall meetings all over the 6th District with one goal in mind -- finding out what's on yours.
It has been a hectic few months in Washington. These meetings are a chance for me to give an update on what has been going on, but most importantly they are an opportunity for me to listen to you.
You are my boss. You elected me to work for you. This is your meeting so you will steer the conversation.
I use what you tell me to guide my votes in Washington. Over the past year two topics have dominated the dialogue in the 6th District -- repealing ObamaCare and cutting federal spending.
I watched with interest as the Supreme Court heard arguments about ObamaCare's constitutionality. I am hopeful the Justices will strike it down, but if they don't I am working to kill it legislatively. I have voted 26 times to repeal part or all of ObamaCare. I vowed to stop this government takeover of our healthcare system and I am confident we are on the path to get rid of this law.
As for federal spending, just last week I supported the most conservative budget presented. It would have balanced the budget in five years and at the same time kept a promise I made to you - to cut $100 billion in spending THIS YEAR.
Those are true reforms that will build over time and ultimately have a significant impact on our ballooning debt.
It is time to stop kicking the can down the road and display some political courage.
I hope you can make it to one of the town hall meetings listed below. If you can't, feel free to call my office or log on to my website (joebarton.house.gov) and send me an email.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
