Sutton Calls on Speaker Boehner to Create Jobs, Pass Long-Term Highway Bill

Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton (OH-13) released the following statement after voting against a Republican-led short-term extension of the Highway Bill instead of passing a two-year reauthorization that would provide lasting jobs and certainty to Ohio families:

"Investing in our transportation and infrastructure means creating jobs and improving our communities. Our nation cannot afford to continue this inefficient stop-gap method of funding for our infrastructure and transportation systems; this band-aid approach is costing us jobs and it is undercutting economic growth," said Sutton. "I call on Speaker Boehner to bring the Senate transportation bill to the House floor for a vote and to work with Democrats on implementing long-term solutions to creating jobs and improving our nation's roads, rails, and other infrastructure."

A longtime leader on advocating for smart investments in our national infrastructure and improvements in our transportation networks, Sutton supports legislation passed by the United States Senate (S.1813) by an overwhelming bipartisan margin of 74 to 22 (Senate Roll Call Vote Number 48). According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, over 55,000 jobs in Ohio are supported by the Highway Bill.
