Lieberman, Blumenthal, Courtney Announce $25.2 Million in Repair Contracts for Electric Boat

Senators Joe Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that Groton-based Electric Boat (EB) has secured a $25.2 million in contracts from the U.S. Navy to perform maintenance on the USS Annapolis (SSN 760) in Groton ($15.4 million) and to support nuclear submarine and carrier repair work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard ($9.8 million) in Washington State. The USS ANNAPOLIS maintenance and modernization work will be conducted this fall at Electric Boat and is expected to employee up to 225 EB tradespersons, engineers and support personnel . The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard contract will employ approximately 60 EB skilled tradesmen to support to submarine and carrier maintenance availabilities scheduled at the Puget Sound shipyard.

"These important contracts are a testament to the unmatched skill of Electric Boat's talented workforce and their productive partnership with the Navy," said Senator Lieberman.

"Funding for fleet maintenance is vital to the continued preparedness and strength of our Navy," said Senator Blumenthal. "We owe our service members nothing less than safe and well maintained equipment that will enable them to keep us free. This contract not only supports our Navy, but also jobs and continued economic growth for our state."

"This maintenance work comes at a welcome time to further stabilize the workforce at Electric Boat as the yard ramps up toward two sub per year production," said Congressman Courtney. "The irreplaceable men and women of Electric Boat have earned the confidence the U.S. Navy and Pentagon to service and to modernize our most valuable naval assets on a variety of platforms.
