Open Doors USA, an advocacy group dedicated to highlighting the plight of persecuted Christians, is praising Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) for his support of legislation to protect religious freedom around the world.
In the midterm Congressional Scorecard for International Religious Freedom, Open Doors USA evaluated each Senator's and Representative's record on religious freedom issues.
Congressman Lamborn was one of 10 House Members to earn a 100 % score.
"The scorecard is one of the most simple and effective ways that Christians in America can help promote religious freedom. If your representative or senator has scored well, please thank them."-- Carl Moeller, President/CEO, Open Doors USA
"Among the rights granted us by the Creator, is the right to worship according to the dictates of our own conscience. It is a right that applies the world over, regardless of political and national boundaries. We must strive to end religious persecution." - Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
Open Doors USA grades Members on their votes and co-sponsorship of a selection of the most important religious freedom bills and resolutions that seek to protect Christians and other persecuted faith groups worldwide.
Examples of legislation that Lamborn has supported in this area include, H.R. 440, a bill to establish a Special Envoy to promote religious freedom for religious minorities in the Near East and South Central Asia and H.Res. 134, a resolution condemning the government of Iran for its state-sponsored persecution of its Baha'i minority and violation of the International Covenants on Human Rights.
Nearly 70 percent of the world's 6.8 billion people live in countries with restrictions on religious expression.
An estimated 100 million Christians worldwide suffer interrogation, arrest and even death for their faith in Christ, with millions more facing discrimination and alienation. Open Doors supports and strengthens believers in the world's most difficult areas through Bible and Christian literature distribution, leadership training and assistance, Christian community development, prayer and presence ministry, and advocacy on behalf of suffering believers.
