U.S. Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) issued the following statement following the House vote to pass the Republican's fiscal year 2013 budget proposal:
"Once again, my Republican colleagues have chosen to advance a budget that does not align with the priorities of the American people and defames the hallmarks of our nation's founding principles. I am deeply saddened that House Republicans chose to pass legislation that destroys Medicare for seniors, decreases funding for youth who want to advance their education and slashes investments for our infrastructure that will not only make our roads and bridges safer, but create jobs for Americans who are out of work through no fault of their own.
"Last month, President Obama introduced a budget proposal that benefits all Americans, and puts partisan politics aside in order to sustain the policies that are best for our country, our families and our neighbors. We all know America is at its best when everyone, no matter your race, religion or economic status, gets a fair shot at success, and unfortunately this Republican budget fails to give anyone an opportunity to succeed except the wealthiest Americans. "
