Pearce: DOJ Drops Politically Motivated Lawsuit

Today, Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement after the Department of Justice (DOJ) dropped its appeal in the case Holder v. Pine. In the case, U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder sued pro-life voice Mary Susan Pine for what he said was obstructing a vehicle from entering a Florida abortion clinic parking lot in late 2009.

"I am pleased to hear that the DOJ has dropped its appeal against Ms. Pine and agreed to pay her for the unnecessary lawsuit," said Pearce. "It is clear that Holder's actions were politically motivated. Her actions and her courage to stand up for what is right have led to the saving of innocent lives, and the DOJ's decision is a victory for those fighting for our fundamental freedom of speaking out and voicing our opinions."

Mary Susan Pine was represented by Liberty Counsel, and the Department of Justice will pay $120,000 in legal expenses for what Liberty Counsel termed an "improper lawsuit."
