Terry, Subcommittee Address Rising Gasoline Prices

Statement

Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) and the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power today held a hearing to discuss solutions to our country's rapidly-rising gasoline prices.

Experts on oil and gasoline pricing, vending, and supply chains testified at the hearing, including Mr. Jack Gerard, President of the American Petroleum Institute, Mr. Charles Drevna, President of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, and Mr. John Eichberger, Vice President of theNational Association for Convenience Stores.

"Pump prices in Omaha are nearing $4.00 a gallon. They were half as much at the end of the Bush Administration. That is why we in the House have passed five bills to strike down barriers preventing more domestic energy production. Our great country has an abundant supply of natural resources. It is about time that we put them to use.

"We also passed legislation to ensure the construction of the Keystone Pipeline. This will bring a major new oil supply from our number one trading partner and neighbor, Canada.

"Together, these bills decrease our reliance on Middle Eastern oil and stabilize gas prices. If the Senate passes these bills, it will ease the pocketbook pain for all Americans," said Terry.
