Congressman Nunnelee on the Ryan Budget

Congressman Alan Nunnelee (MS-01) released the following statement on the budget unveiled today by Chairman Paul Ryan:

"Our nation faces a serious fiscal crisis. We are 15 trillion dollars in debt and under President Obama we will have our 4th consecutive year of trillion dollar deficits, a first in our nation's history. His latest budget proposal offers nothing but more spending, more debt, and higher taxes. Democrats in Congress have chosen to abandon their responsibility altogether and are content to demagogue Republican efforts to save this country from a Greek-style debt crisis. Senate Democrats have not even bothered to offer a budget in three years, as they are betting that they can win in November on a campaign of dishonest scare tactics. They have made it clear they have no new ideas, no solutions, and no courage. Their plan is to make sure the President gets reelected and then get on with what they really want to do: enact the largest tax increase in American history to pay for their spending spree. They know if they are honest about their true vision for America, they would get a repeat of what happened in 2010.

America deserves better from its political leadership, which is why Republicans have offered bold proposals for the big problems we face, rather than the same old cynical political games Harry Reid and Barack Obama are playing. We owe the American people the truth about the choices we face, even if we have to do it alone. House Republicans have put forward a responsible budget that meets our fiscal challenge head on because the American people deserve an honest choice for the direction of our nation, and it is the right thing to do."

Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi's First Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee. This is his first term.
