Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the House Republican Budget that would end the Medicare guarantee and slash over four million jobs while rewarding those making over $1 million a year with over $300,000 in additional tax breaks:
"As Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, in these troubled times, "we need to prevail upon this country to come together and find the warm courage of national unity that comes from shared sacrifice.'
"That's why House Democrats have proposed a budget that is fair and balanced and calls for shared sacrifice from all Americans -- not just the least among us. And Americans are willing to sacrifice, knowing that their government will stand behind them and be there to protect them from the vicissitudes that can come with the calamities of life.
"No American should be asked to sacrifice the guarantee of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and healthcare at the altar of greed and special interest subsidies. Yet that is what the Republican budget asks, and why Democrats stand united in opposition."
