Rep. Farenthold Questions Energy Secretary Chu About DOE Green Energy Loans

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Blake Farenthold (TX-27) questioned Secretary of Energy Steven Chu on the effect that natural gas prices have on the viability of green energy companies and the merits of loan guarantees given to SoloPower and Abengoa Biomass. These questions were part of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Hearing on the Department of Energy weatherization and green energy loan programs.

"While many Americans are feeling pain at the pump, the Department of Energy is busy doling out risky taxpayer funded loans for projects that will do nothing to lower the price of gasoline. The DOE needs to diversify their loan portfolio, incorporating an all of the above energy approach, instead of picking winners and losers in a vital American industry."
