Environmental Protection Agency Coal-Killing Rule Part of President's Energy Plan

Statement

Date: March 27, 2012

The Environmental Protection Agency released greenhouse gas rules today that restrict the development of new power plants. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., said the President's policies are driving up gasoline prices "and now he is trying to make electricity unaffordable too."

"In 2008 President Obama said he wanted to get rid of power plants that rely on coal. This is one case where his Administration's actions have matched his words. The EPA is his hammer and traditional forms of energy are nails. This Administration seems like it is doing everything it can to drive up energy costs," Enzi said. "The President likes to promote electric cars. This move by the EPA is going to make charging those cars a lot more expensive. We need more prudent policies from this Administration that take more than ideology into account."
