Congressman John W. Olver released the following statement on the current situation in Sudan and South Sudan:
"Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children in the Nuba Mountain region of southern Sudan are facing bombings and starvation at the hands of their own government. The Sudanese military is blocking relief aid and has created a large-scale food crisis.
"I urge Members of Congress, the Administration and the international community to focus on ending this atrocity. The world must prevent Sudan's widespread use of its own citizens as expendable pawns in its post-South Sudan secession posturing."
