Owens Statement on IJC Water Level Study

Statement

Date: March 29, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Owens released the following statement this afternoon after the International Joint Commission (IJC) announced plans to conduct a study on Lake Champlain flooding. The IJC will form a task force that will further develop the scope of work and produce a budget to complete the project. Owens was among the first out of the gate with this request, asking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to approve the study. The Congressman has also been in contact with the IJC since May 2011 on this issue.

"I applaud the IJC for responding to the call for a study on flooding in Lake Champlain and the Richelieu River. Last year's flood took its toll on our community and caused untold amounts of damage to local homes and businesses, and this is a good first step toward preventing similar events in the future. I look forward to seeing this study move forward so we can work towards an effective plan to protect the community in conjunction with our Canadian neighbors," said Owens.
