The Hultgren Huddle - March 23 Edition

Statement

Date: March 24, 2012

Dear Friend,

I'm proud to report that in Washington this week, the House passed with bipartisan support legislation repealing ObamaCare's Independent Payment Advisory Board. As you may know, IPAB is a panel of unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats with the power to effectively ration Medicare for seniors. I've heard from countless medical professionals across my district who are deeply concerned by IPAB, and by its potential ability to prevent them from treating their patients. IPAB threatened to end Medicare as we know it and I was proud to join members from both parties in voting to repeal it.

Also this week, the Senate had its most productive day in recent memory, voting to pass two important pieces of legislation. They overwhelmingly passed our strong version of the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge, or STOCK, Act, a commonsense bill that strengthens the existing prohibition on insider trading by members of Congress and staffers. The Senate also amended and passed the Jumpstart Our Business Startups, or JOBS, Act, another commonsense bill I was proud to support recently. The JOBS Act would make it easier for small businesses to gain access to the capital they need to open their doors and grow, and I hope we'll send it to the President's desk soon.
