Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the latest installment of Ask Peter today, a frequent video conversation with Sixth District residents about issues important to them. In this segment, Congressman Roskam answered a letter from Martin and Patricia Dettmer from Wheaton and an email from Dena Wiesner from Glen Ellyn about President Obama's healthcare overhaul two years later.

TEXT OF VIDEO HERE:

Hi, I'm Congressman Peter Roskam. Welcome back to Ask Peter.

This is the two year anniversary of the passage of Obamacare.

But did you notice something? The White House has no events to talk about it.

And that's because I think if they could, they would revisit this.

They made all kinds of promises when the bill was first passed. They said it was going to bring costs down and that turned out not to be true.

They said that you were going to be able to keep your doctor and your healthcare plan and that turned out not to be true

They also said that it was going to create jobs and be all sorts of abundance and that turned out not to be true.

So this isn't something to celebrate.

And the irony is when Nancy Pelosi was running the House of Representatives she said, that they had to pass the bill in order that we could find out what was in it.

Well she did and we do.

I think most folks are looking at this bill saying this is not what they signed up for.

Here's where the opportunity lies: House Republicans have an alternative that is patient-centered healthcare.

That is, not getting between you and your physician, but ultimately trying to make sure that you have the physician that you choose.

There's all kinds of very good thoughtful ways to bring costs down and ultimately try and drive an environment where healthcare is abundant and it's there for us all.

I've been particular gratified to hear from Dena Weisner who emailed me from Glen Ellyn and also Mark and Patricia Dettmer who sent me a letter from Wheaton.

But I need to hear from you. Send emails, Facebook, Twitter, drop a postcard.

I'm Congressman Peter Roskam and this is Ask Peter.
