Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the latest installment of Ask Peter today, a frequent video conversation with Sixth District residents about issues important to them. In this segment, Congressman Roskam addressed a comment from Scot Hansen on Facebook and an email from Harvey Randecker about the President's healthcare reform law, specifically the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) -- an unelected panel of 15 bureaucrats that find ways to cut Medicare, affecting the doctor-patient relationship for seniors.

TEXT OF VIDEO HERE:

Welcome back to ask Peter.

I'm Congressman Peter Roskam and there's been a lot of buzz and conversation about the Independent Payment Advisory Board in President Obama's healthcare law, and a lot of concern about it.

In a nutshell, it's 15 unelected bureaucrats who have one job and that is to push cost out of Medicare. While that sounds nice, it will have a direct impact on reimbursement rates which will ultimately impact how doctors practice medicine.

There was an expert on IPAB that came in and testified before a Committee that I was present, and he said this: IPAB will absolutely restrict a doctor's ability to administer healthcare. And he went on to say that IPAB will lead to rationed care.

Look, rationed care is not the way we fix Medicare. The good news is IPAB has been repealed and that bill has moved out of a House Committee and we hope to advance that on the House floor.

This is an issue that was raised to me by Harvey Randecker who emailed from Glen Ellyn and Scott Hansen who communicated on Facebook.

I need to hear from you. By Facebook, email, Twitter, send a regular postcard or whatever. But I'm Congressman Peter Roskam, thanks for joining me.
