Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement regarding the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment:
"Today marks the 40th anniversary of Congress' passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, yet our Constitution remains unchanged because some states do not recognize the importance of guaranteeing women equal protection under the law.
"If recent events regarding women's issues have taught us anything, it is that now more than ever we must put the weight of the U.S. Constitution behind American women, guaranteeing equality in the workplace, in our armed services, in court rooms and, of course, in hospitals and doctor's offices across the country."
