Gov. Jay Nixon today issued the following statement regarding the decision by Enbridge U.S. to move forward with construction of the Flanagan South pipeline:
"Construction of this new $2.8 billion Enbridge pipeline will create jobs for hardworking Missourians, boost our economy, and help make North America more energy-independent. As Governor, I am extremely pleased that Enbridge has officially decided to construct this pipeline across 11 Missouri counties stretching along existing pipeline from the Hannibal area in the east all the way to Bates County in the west, and my administration stands ready to work with the company to ensure that construction moves forward as safely and efficiently as possible. By increasing the use of North American fuel sources, we will create more jobs and ensure a brighter future for our state and our nation. This major investment by Enbridge is another important step forward for Missouri's economy."
Gov. Nixon has been a strong supporter of the Enbridge project. Earlier this year, the Governor visited Shelby County to discuss the benefits the Enbridge project will have on local communities
