Pitts Attends First Day of Deliberations on Health Law

Statement

Date: March 26, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

This morning, Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) attended the first day of U.S. Supreme Court deliberations on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Supreme Court will consider the constitutionality of the law's provisions including the individual mandate to purchase health insurance and Medicaid expansion.

"This morning, I had the privilege of sitting in on the first day of Supreme Court deliberations regarding the President's health law. Today's oral arguments grappled with the question of whether the court can consider the constitutionality of the individual mandate now, or whether they need to wait until penalties are assessed a few years from now.

"This year, the House has worked to repeal the law, to roll back especially harmful provisions, and to defund wasteful spending created under the law. Whether or not the Supreme Court rules against the law, I'm going to work to restore rights to the American people."
