Our State Constitution guarantees every child in North Carolina a sound education offered through our public schools. You don't improve schools when you are busy cutting education budgets, firing classroom teachers and slashing the professional development of the teachers that are left. Cutting pre-school budgets in the wake of the constitutional order that guaranteed access to pre-k for four year olds at-risk of future academic failure shows contempt for education and struggling children.
But the attacks on education don't stop in pre-schools and schools. Workforce training is being starved of resources. Our state's reputation as an economic innovator is not served by huge cuts to our public universities.
I will be a champion for early education, our public schools, our community colleges and our university system to give more people and our state a better shot at economic properity over future decades.
