Lankford Praises Path to Prosperity: Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Provides Real Solutions in Tough Economic Times

Congressman James Lankford (R-OK) issued the following statement after the House Budget Committee released The Path to Prosperity: A Blueprint For American Renewal--the Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) budget resolution.
"Chairman Ryan and the House Budget Committee have once again shown our commitment to restoring fiscal discipline in Washington." Congressman Lankford said. "It is immoral to see our nation's impending financial collapse and do nothing. Rome is burning, and we cannot put out the fire simply by talking about it. We need action. We must offer solutions that reduce spending; protect Medicare from insolvency; provide certainty to families; and reform our broken tax code. We cannot hide from making tough decisions because we are afraid of the politics. Our children are counting on us to take a critical look at spending today, so they are not saddled with cleaning up our mess later. We must stop making it harder on our children simply to make it easier on ourselves. This year, in the House FY13 budget, House Republicans have proposed more than $5 trillion in cuts over the next 10 years."
"Instead of giving in to congressional gridlock, the FY13 plan from House Republicans offers a roadmap for our future. We still have a choice: the President's budget proposal, which continues to spend more and borrow more or the House budget, which provides a balanced and prosperous path forward," said Congressman Lankford. "Our plan secures Medicare to ensure its existence for future generations; provides the framework for a two-tiered tax system at 10% and 25%; eliminates the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT); and reduces overall government spending."
"We must put an end to the empty promises that will inevitably lead us to a bankrupt government and a mountain of bills for our children that they will be unable to pay. The release of the new Path to Prosperity is the first step in a long process of readying this legislation for a full vote of the House. I look forward to the House Budget Committee mark-up of this important bill on Wednesday, March 21, 2012."
