Issue Position: Seniors

Issue Position

I worked for passage of the Senior Tax Justice Act which eliminates the double tax for Missourians age 62 or older on military veterans, teachers, disabled Missourians, firefighters and police officers. This will save 220,000 seniors across Missouri $155 million in taxes.

This year when the Circuit Breaker Act property tax benefit for seniors was in danger, I made sure it was not eliminated. I am also sponsoring a new program to give seniors more relief from ever rising property taxes by capping any increases to no more that the increase in Social Security benefits. If the government thinks seniors can live on a 0% increase, maybe the government should do the same.

I supported extending the MORx program for nearly 200,000 Missouri seniors this year (HB412). This program offers assistance to seniors who fall into the doughnut hole in their Medicare Part D plan. It provides a 50 percent discount on medications, co-pays and deductibles.
