Q: Besides those listed above, what issues do you see as a top priority, and what specific legislative solutions might you propose?

A: I have spent the better part of my life trying to bring jobs and prosperity to our community. A job is the best social improvement program we have, and I will continue to focus my efforts on bringing good paying jobs to the District. We must extend the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) legislation. In the 90's we called it the "Welfare to Work" bill. The program reimburses 80 percent of a new hire's salary. It is a good program that is dying because of Republican obstructionism in the Senate. Through a program I have organized in our District called "Jobs Now", companies have pledged to hire 700 new employees. Getting TANF extended and ensuring that these jobs are available is my top priority.
