House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the introduction of the House Republican Fiscal Year 2013 budget resolution --The Path to Prosperity. Chairman Price serves on the House Budget Committee.
"America is facing a fiscal crisis; families continue to struggle in a weak economy; and the vital health and retirement programs seniors rely upon, won't be there for long. Which is precisely why House Republicans are putting forth a bold plan for America's future that addresses these challenges head on and in a responsible manner," said Chairman Price. "In the wake of another reckless budget proposal by the president and the intransigence of the Democrat Senate to even pass a budget in over 1,000 days, House Republicans are offering a vision built on the principles that have made this country the greatest nation in the history of the world.
"Our budget demonstrates to the American people that we, as a nation, have a choice. We can continue down the path to further debt, doubt, and despair under the president's budget blueprint. Or, we can stop pretending that this fiscal crisis is someone else's problem and get to work responsibly reducing and controlling spending so that we may pay off our debt. It is still possible to protect today's seniors from the democrat plan that cuts Medicare by over $500 billion and empowers a board of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats to effectively deny care to seniors. And we can save and strengthen the program for future seniors through patient-centered solutions that will ensure the program works for this, and future, generations. At a time when our economy is struggling, our budget protects families and small businesses from job-killing tax hikes and eliminates loopholes while proposing reforms to today's convoluted tax code so America and American entrepreneurs may achieve economic success and invest in a prosperous future.
"House Republicans reject the idea that Washington ought to be picking winners and losers in a political economy. We respect the fact that leaders should not ignore for political purposes the fiscal threats facing those programs that provide for our nation's seniors -- particularly when there are positive reforms that can be made to protect these vital lifelines for millions of Americans. Where the president and democrats are failing to act in a responsible manner, House Republicans are continuing to offer bold and necessary leadership and a choice of a brighter future for America."
