CONGRESSWOMAN HARRIS ANNOUNCES $1.6 MILLION USDA LOAN GUARANTEE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DESOTO DEBRIS LANDFILL

Washington, D.C., Sep 30 - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris announces that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development agency has guaranteed a $1.6 million loan to Meyer & Gabbert Excavating Contractors, Inc., which will fund the costs of developing a construction and debris landfill in DeSoto County, 14 miles east of Arcadia. This landfill, which is already in operation, will service all of south Florida.

"I commend the USDA for its continued commitment to providing Floridians with the essential resources they need to rebuild and recover from the impact of four devastating hurricanes," Rep. Harris said. "This loan comes at a critical time for DeSoto County's economy, creating jobs and funding debris removal capacity when the need for both is greater than ever."
