Today, Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) released the following statement in reaction to the February jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor. A net total of 227,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate for February was unchanged at 8.3 percent.
"While today's jobs numbers bring some encouraging news, the unemployment rate is still much too high and the economy remains far too weak," said Rep. Buerkle.
"Economic recovery could be happening at a much quicker pace, but the Senate has refused act on any of the House's jobs bills. It has been more than 1,000 days since the Senate passed a budget. The President continues to support failed policies of higher taxes and increased regulations, while rejecting pro-growth initiatives like the Keystone pipeline.
"With gas prices rising rapidly, once again many families will have to cut back and will not be able to keep up with the cost of living. It is more important than ever that we work for positive, bipartisan solutions to generate economic certainty and empower America's small businesses to create jobs."
