Roskam Applauds Ways & Means Committee Passing Legislation to Repeal IPAB

Statement

Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (IL-06) today issued the following statement after the House Ways and Means Committee passed legislation to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) -- an Obamacare-created panel of 15 unelected bureaucrats to cut Medicare costs.

"I applaud the Ways & Means Committee for taking this important step in protecting seniors from a future of rationed healthcare. The IPAB is not a feasible solution to solve Medicare's insolvency, but an ill-advised denial-of-care board empowering bureaucrats to decide reimbursement rates for doctors that will determine how they administer care to patients, affecting the doctor-patient relationship and leading to healthcare rationing. Doctors and patients should be the ones making decisions about their healthcare, not bureaucrats. Repealing the IPAB will help protect seniors from one of Obamacare's most egregious components, and will bring us one important step closer to a full repeal of the President's healthcare law."
