Gov. Jay Nixon today issued the following statement regarding his meeting with leaders from the Missouri Council of the Blind and the National Federation of the Blind:
"For decades, Missouri has protected our efficient program to provide health care for the blind. This program is carefully focused to help blind Missourians with the greatest need, and it is a lifeline for thousands of people. This afternoon, I met with leaders from the Missouri Council of the Blind and the National Federation of the Blind to discuss how we can continue to work together to safeguard this efficient and vital program at its historic full funding level. As Governor, I will continue to make the tough choices needed to balance our budget and hold the line on taxes. But cutting health care for the blind simply isn't an option."
