The United States should develop the means to end all dependence on foreign energy sources. This effort will entail a combination of alternative energy development, conservation measures, investment in new energy processes, and careful regulation of existing energy systems. Wind, solar, and geothermal energy development should be supported as well. Better car mileage standards, home insulation standards, and federal energy conservation should be part of the overall effort. Investment in fusion and fission nuclear should be supported to address the issues pertaining to the use of these energy systems. The true costs of the current energy systems need to be identified and accounted for in the overall energy policy of the United States.
