Representative Sandy Adams (FL-24) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 3606, the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act). House Republicans' JOBS Act, which has received the endorsement of the Obama administration, is comprised of six financial services bills which aim to help small businesses get off the ground by giving them access to capital and removing regulations that are standing in the way of job growth.
"Since 1980, small business startups have been responsible for 60 percent of new jobs in the United States, creating over 40 million jobs. Unfortunately, entrepreneurship is at a 17-year low. With unemployment standing at eight percent or higher for the past three years, it is clear that small businesses have borne the brunt of the down economy. That is why today's passage of the JOBS Act will play a pivotal role in helping small businesses get off the ground and ultimately hire hard working Americans. Since day one of this Congress, helping small businesses create jobs has been at the forefront of everything House Republicans have done. As part of our Plan for America's Job Creators, we will continue to look for ways to create a better environment for our nation's small businesses so they can expand, hire and get our economy moving again."
