Fighting to keep student loan rates affordable, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley today cosponsored legislation that will stop federally subsidized Stafford loan rates from increasing from 3.4% to 6.8% at a time when so many Silver State families are struggling with college costs. The bipartisan legislation, H. R. 3826, will prevent subsidized Stafford loan rates from doubling.
"As someone who worked their way through college and who utilized student loans, I know how important this funding can be for Nevadans who want to enroll at UNR, UNLV, CSN or another university or community college," said Berkley. "This bill will prevent Stafford loan rates from doubling at a time when so many students and their families in Nevada are already stretching every dollar just to cover existing bills. It is critical that we act soon or these students will pay thousands of dollars more in increased interest payments over the life of their Stafford loans,"
