U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) today released the following statement in reaction to President Barack Obama's call for Congress to vote on eliminating $4 billion tax-funded subsidies for big oil companies.
"President Obama could not have put it more plainly to Congress members: are we working for the American people or big oil companies? A vote would put every member's primary allegiance on record," said Pascrell, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which creates federal tax policy. "Gas and oil prices continue to climb, along with big oil companies' profits. Where is their need for a crutch provided by taxpayers? Let's put that $4 billion to work for America's middle class by funding Medicare, helping families."
