Governor Jindal Announces Legislative Proposal to Eliminate Boards and Commissions

Governor Bobby Jindal announced a legislative proposal today to eliminate numerous state boards and commissions that are inactive, can be absorbed by other existing boards or agencies, or have fulfilled their original mission. The legislation, HB 314, is authored by Rep. Johnny Berthelot and will be part of the Governor's 2012 Legislative Package.

Governor Jindal said, "Eliminating these boards and commissions will streamline services and make government more efficient."

Since 2008, Governor Jindal has worked with the Legislature to eliminate more than 100 state boards and commissions that were never fully formed or no longer serving the purposes for which they were created.

Rep. Johnny Berthelot said, "I appreciate the Governor's support on this measure to make government more efficient and to ensure that these boards and commissions are reaching their maximum potential to best serve the citizens of our state."

Proposed Boards and Commissions for Elimination:

Board of Directors for Regional Education Service Centers
Reason to Eliminate: The services of the board were incorporated into the La. Dept. of Education in 2011, and the board was left on the books.

Board of Directors for the Louisiana Infrastructure Bank
Reason to Eliminate: The purpose of this board was repealed by the Legislature in 2011, however the board remained on the books.

Council of 100
Reason to Eliminate: This council is inactive.

Governor's State Manpower Services Council
Reason to Eliminate: This council is inactive.

Louisiana Higher Education Executive Advisory Committee
Reason to Eliminate: The legislative auditor recommended that this advisory committee be abolished because the advisory committee is inactive.

Advisory Council of the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium for Research and Education
