Congressman John Carney (D-DE) today released the following statement after voting to extend the payroll tax cut, maintain unemployment benefits for out-of-work Americans, and preserve access to doctors for seniors.

"While I am very disappointed that today's legislation does not pay for the extension of the payroll tax cuts, I feel that it is critically important to ensure that taxes don't go up for millions of middle class Americans who work hard every day. I also feel strongly that Americans who are out-of-work through no fault of their own should continue to receive unemployment benefits, and that seniors should be able to continue seeing their current doctors, who were facing a 28 percent cut in Medicare reimbursements. Finally, I was glad to see that the package included the framework of the EMPLOY Act, which I co-sponsored to encourage employers to hire individuals who have been jobless for an extended period."
