Congressman Bill Owens (NY-23) released the following statement today after voting in favor of legislation that extended a payroll tax cut for millions of American middle-class families. H.R. 3630, the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011, passed the House today by a vote of 293-132.
"I am pleased to support this compromise to extend the middle-class payroll tax cut for another year," said Owens. "I am disappointed that the conference committee did not offer a way to pay for this tax cut with reductions in spending or revenue increases, but it is critical that this bill was passed to put more money in the pockets of American working families. Reaching this agreement has also ensured that doctors who care for seniors on Medicare are fairly reimbursed for their services and millions of unemployed Americans continue to receive their benefits."
