Gov. Jay Nixon today released the following statement regarding the tuition decision announced by the University of Missouri Board of Curators this morning:
"As Governor, my top priorities in higher education are to make a college degree more affordable and accessible for Missouri students and to provide quality academic programs that will lead to the jobs and careers of tomorrow. That's why I was pleased to restore $40 million in funding for higher education in my budget for Fiscal Year 2013 as a result of the recent national mortgage settlement. I commend the University of Missouri's Board of Curators and President Tim Wolfe for deciding to hold tuition increases for next year to a significantly smaller amount. This decision ensures that more Missouri families will be able to afford a college education that will prepare students for rewarding careers."
