Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement:

Today, President Obama put forth his vision for America and the President's priorities for the upcoming Fiscal Year. I applaud the President for his proposal to make strong investments in education, energy independence, US manufacturing, America's roads, bridges, and public transportation, including more than $350 billion toward programs for job growth starting this year.

This budget proposal cuts spending while extending the payroll tax cut for 160 million Americans, extending unemployment insurance, and protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. President Obama's budget proposal will keep our economy on track to a full recovery, without balancing the budget on the backs of seniors and the Middle Class.

I stand with President Obama in the fight for a fairer tax system for the Middle Class and all Americans. Warren Buffett's secretary should not have to pay a higher tax rate than her billionaire boss. Through shared sacrifice and making sure the wealthiest of Americans pay their fair share in taxes, this proposal will cut America's deficit by $4 trillion over the next decade.
