Congressman Rothman's Statement on the Extension of the Payroll Tax Cut

Statement

Date: Feb. 17, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9) released the following statement on the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012:

I support the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 because it will protect American families, seniors, and keeps our economic recovery on track. This bill will prevent nearly five million New Jersey residents from seeing their payroll taxes increased, ensure that tens of thousands of those in our state who are looking for work will not see their unemployment benefits cut, and guarantee that the more than 1.3 million of those who receive Medicare will not see a sharp decrease in reimbursements for their doctors.

This compromise bill will provide real benefits to those who are struggling to put food on the table and make ends meet. To not extend the payroll tax cut, unemployment benefits, or address reimbursements for doctors who serve Medicare recipients, would have been unconscionable.
