Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ) issued the following statement today to mark the third anniversary of the president's failed "stimulus" package being signed into law:
"Three years ago today, President Obama signed his trillion-dollar "stimulus' package into law under the promise that it would bring the national unemployment rate down to 6% by this point in his administration. With 36 straight months of unemployment above 8%, I fail to see how his plan "stimulated' anything other than the size of our national debt. The president can go around the country campaigning against a "do-nothing congress' all he wants, but there can be no denying the fact that it's been his policies that have extended the economic downturn and slowed our recovery to a grinding halt.
"Rather than spend money we don't have on economic policies that don't work, House Republicans have put forth a plan to create jobs by growing the economy through the right mix of regulatory reform, tax cuts and increased domestic energy production. To date, House Republicans have passed over 30 pro-growth jobs bill only to see them sent over to the Senate to collect dust on Senator Reid's desk. If President Obama is committed to reversing our economic slide, I suggest he pick up the phone an urge Senator Reid to give our jobs bills the attention they deserve."
