Rep. Eshoo Votes to Pass STOCK Act

Today, Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Palo Alto) voted to pass the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, which passed the House by a vote of 417-2. This legislation prohibits Members of Congress, Congressional staff, and Executive Branch employees, from trading on non-public information obtained in official work. Eshoo, a co-sponsor of the legislation, signed a "discharge petition" last week to bring the legislation directly to the House Floor, bypassing a committee Hearing.

"This common-sense bill will ensure Members of Congress and their staff will not profit from non-public information they are privy to solely because they work for the government," said Rep. Eshoo. "Allegations of improper trading should be fully and quickly investigated, whether by businesses leaders or elected officials.
