U.S. Sen. David Vitter applauded the House of Representatives and U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise (La.-1) on the passage of the RESTORE Act.

"I really congratulate Steve Scalise for choreographing this strong vote. It's a very important step forward in advancing RESTORE, in modified form. As a leading member of the Conference Committee on this highway bill, I'll fight for inclusion of the full RESTORE language in the final version as a top priority," Vitter said.

Vitter helped get the highway transportation reauthorization legislation known as Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) passed through the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Vitter joined EPW Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Ranking Member Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) as an original co-sponsor of the bill. This group was known as the "big four." Vitter is the ranking member of the subcommittee that had jurisdiction of the bill. The bill passed through committee unanimously on November 9, 2011.
