Landrieu Statement on Cybersecurity Bill

Statement

Date: Feb. 14, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement on the cybersecurity legislation that was introduced today in the Senate:

"In today's increasingly digital and connected world, threats to our homeland no longer come only by land, air or sea. Dangers now exist in cyberspace, and have the potential to threaten our military, power grids and emergency response systems. I applaud my Senate colleagues, both Democrats and Republicans, for introducing legislation to address this growing threat to our nation. It is critical that we address this issue quickly, as well as correctly, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and other stakeholders on the best possible legislation to improve cybersecurity and protect our nation."

Sen. Landrieu has been a staunch supporter of the efforts to protect our country from cyber threats. As Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Sen. Landrieu included $443 million for cyber security and cyber education in the fiscal year 2012 Homeland Security Appropriations bill.

Yesterday, Sen. Landrieu expressed support for additional investments in cybersecurity contained in the President's proposed budget for fiscal year 2013.
