Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-Dallas), a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement in response to the Department of Labor's unemployment report for the month of January:

"While any sign of job creation is encouraging, today's report reminds us that significant work must be done to restore our nation's economic vitality and get unemployed Americans in the workplace. This week, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reported that the unemployment rate is expected to rise over the next three years, and 2012 is expected to be the fourth consecutive year with a budget deficit above $1 trillion. The CBO's report underscores that the President's policies have failed and are making our economy worse.

"In a sharp contrast from Democrat-controlled Washington's approach, House Republicans have put forth a plan of common-sense solutions to reenergize the free enterprise system and empower job creators to innovate, invest and hire more workers. We have passed over 30 pro-growth bills and will continue to fight for more job-creating opportunities like the Keystone XL Pipeline project that could create at least 20,000 American jobs. To ensure that a brighter future lies ahead for our children and grandchildren, House Republicans will continue to fight for struggling Americans and work to put our nation back on a path towards fiscal solvency."
