Stutzman: President Obama Must Respect Religious Freedom and Rescind HHS Ruling

Location: Washington, DC

This morning, as the White House persists in its efforts to force faith-based organizations to disregard their religious convictions, Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03) issued the following statement:

"Last week, at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama said some truly inspiring things about faith. Now, the President has an opportunity to act on those words. If the Administration wants to respect religious freedom, they shouldn't assume that a 30-minute conversation in the Oval Office will convince the Catholic Church and other faith-based groups to publicly forsake their deep and private convictions. The President should immediately rescind HHS' ruling and protect the free exercise of religion. I will not stand idly by as the President tries to force faith-based groups to violate their religious beliefs and provide sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. If President Obama does not reverse his Administration's attack on religious freedom, I will work with my colleagues in the House to reverse it ourselves."
